Health insurance portability and accountability act (HIPPA) privacy rules for home health software
Our product is designed to keep patient data secure and compliant with Health Insurance portability and accountability Act (HIPAA) standards. We protect all individually identifiable health information, otherwise known as “protected health information,” in all forms and media, written, verbal and electronic. We protect information regarding an individual’s past, present or future mental health and condition; the provision of health care to the individual, the past, present or future payment for the provision of health care to the individual; and an individual’s common identifiers such as their name, address, birth date and social security numbers.
>You can be rest assured that, in alignment with HIPAA standards we will not disclose protected health information without the individual’s (or the individual’s personal representative) written authorization, or as the Privacy rule permits or requires the disclosure of such information.
>Disclosure is mandatory in only two instances. Firstly, when an individual requests access to their protected health information and secondly, when the department of Health and Human Services is undertaking a compliance investigation or review or enforcement action.
>According to HIPAA regulations, we are permitted, but not required to use and disclose protected health information, without an individual’s authorization, for the following reasons:
To the individual.
Treatment, Payment, and Health Care Operations.
Opportunity to Agree or Object
Incident to an otherwise permitted use and disclosure.
Public Interest and Benefit Activities.
Limited Data set for the purposes of research, public health or health care operations.
We will always rely on professional ethics and best judgments in deciding which of these permitted uses and disclosures to make. And we will make reasonable efforts to use, disclose and request only the minimum amount or protected health information needed to accomplish the use, disclosure or request. We have developed and implemented policies and procedures to ensure our disclosure of protected health information is limited to the minimum necessary usage.
In addition, we have developed detailed policies and procedures which restrict access and use of protected health information internally, based on the specific roles of the members of our company. We have carefully outlined the people and job functions of staff in our workforce who need to access protected health information to carry out the duties of their job, the types of protected health information to which such access is needed, and any conditions under which they need the information to perform their jobs.
